💰 Traveling Cheap

Welcome, Future Early Retirees.

We are in the summer season and now is the time people are looking to travel! While you are excited about the possibility of travelling, there is one thing holding you back, finances. I would like to help with this so you can have a fun and memorable trip you deserve without being stressed about expenses.

In today’s newsletter, I’ll discuss the 3 best methods I use to save on travel costs:

National Parks

Traveling to national parks is a great way to explore the country's natural beauty while keeping costs low. With over 6,600 national parks spread across the country, there's no shortage of options to choose from. Some of my personal favorites include Yellowstone and the Great Smokey Mountains due to the mix of natural beauty and intense hiking. If you are looking for more a beach vibe you should check out Assateague Island National Seashore in Maryland.

Of course, one of the most appealing aspects of visiting national parks is the affordability. Most parks charge a 7-day entry fee of around $35, which is a small price to pay for access to some of the most stunning landscapes in the world. Also, many parks offer free admission days throughout the year, allowing you to explore these natural wonders without spending a dime.

Camping is another great way to save money while visiting national parks. Most parks have multiple campgrounds that offer a range of amenities, from basic tent sites to full RV hookups. Camping fees are typically very reasonable, often costing less than $20 per night. This means you can spend more time immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the parks and less time worrying about expenses adding up.

To plan your trip, you can visit the National Park Service's website to find potential destinations. You’ll find basic information, safety tips and details about the activities available there as well.

Off-Season Travel

I’m overwhelmed just looking at the image above. If your like me, you don’t mind travelling to popular places but you prefer it not be overcrowded. Travelling in the offseason can be a great way to avoid this while also getting a steal of a deal!

While it may be most convenient to travel at certain times of the year, most places recognize this and raise prices on hotels, food etc because they know people will pay for it. For example, imagine visiting the stunning beaches of Fort Myers, FL during September or October. Not only will you enjoy the beautiful scenery and warm weather, but you'll also find that hotel prices are significantly lower compared to the peak season in December and January.

Another great example is visiting Niagara Falls in the spring time. While the weather may be cooler, you'll have the opportunity to explore the iconic landmarks without the usual long lines and crowded tourist attractions. Plus, you can take advantage of the hotels being prices at a fraction of the cost compared to the peak tourist season.

By choosing to travel during the offseason, you not only save money on accommodations, food, and attractions, but you also get to experience the destination in a more relaxed way. It's a win-win situation that allows you to make the most of your travel budget while still enjoying the wonders of the world.

Credit Card Reward Programs

Imagine you were able to travel and have your hotel be free. This is all possible due to credit card reward programs. Most credit cards have a rewards program where you get points or money back for using their card. Some of them offer specific travel rewards. You can use these rewards to help you pay for a significant portion of your vacation!

In addition to these travel rewards, many credit cards also offer additional perks and benefits, such as no foreign transaction fees, travel insurance, and airport lounge access. These benefits can further enhance your travel experience and allow you to travel in style 😎. Just be sure to pay the entire balance off each month so you don’t accumulate interest!

Here is a list of the top 10 travel reward credit cards according to Kara and Nate. They have travelled to over 100 countries so they know a thing or two about travel rewards. If you are interested, they have a YouTube channel where they document there travel journeys throughout the world.
